Symposium Details

We at the GCI are proud to announce our 10th annual GCI Symposium, organized in partnership with Green Chemistry McGill and Queen's University (Q-ACS)!

As a result of this great milestone, this symposium, titled 10 Years of The GCI Symposium: Thinking Green(er) in Daily Life, will celebrate all that we have been able to achieve in green chemistry, while thinking about how to broaden the scope of green chemistry to outside of the lab: in career, education, and society. This symposium is designed to connect students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty members interested in Green Chemistry with current leaders in the field to discuss advances in chemical processes and the future of sustainable research practices.

This symposium is a two and a half-day event, from May 7^th - 9^th, 2025. All events will be held at the University of Toronto – St. George Campus

Poster Abstract Submission & Travel Scholarship Application

We encourage all our attendees to submit a poster abstract for our poster networking session, taking place in the evening of Thursday, May 8^th. Abstracts are limited to 200 words. Please note that posters do not require the inclusion/mention of Green Chemistry elements or aspects. However, all presenters are invited to look for opportunities to talk about Green Chemistry within the context of their research. Posters from previous conferences are welcome! Please make sure to submit your abstracts early, as they will be evaluated on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Additionally, we will be providing travel scholarships to alleviate some costs. The amount awarded is on a need-basis. Applications for the travel scholarship can be found on the second page of the poster abstract submission form.

Cost and Registration

Early Bird Registration: Closes April 4^th, 2025 at 11:59 pm EDT
Early Bird registration cost is $45 CAD.

Regular Registration: Closes April 25^th, 2025
Regular registration cost is $55 CAD.

The registration fee includes all symposium events, as well as lunch, refreshments and coffee that will be provided as part of the symposium program on the full-schedule days (May 8^th and 9^th, 2025). Registration does not include accommodation and travel fees.

Accommodation

The nearest accommodations can be found at New College residences at the University of Toronto St. George campus. The symposium begins on Wednesday, May 7^th and ends on Friday afternoon, May 9^th. Student rates are available at New College residence. You will be required to book accommodation on your own, but we are happy to assist or provide more information. Remember to book well ahead of time to ensure your accommodation!

Transportation

Toronto's TTC system is fast and easy. Tickets are $3.35 for each trip, visit Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) for more information.

To arrive at the University of Toronto St. George campus:

(a) From Pearson International Airport (YYZ), take the 900 Airport Express to Kipling station (the last station). At Kipling station, take the subway (Line 2, Bloor-Danforth, Green, towards Kennedy) and head Eastbound. Get off at St. George station (15 stops).

(b) From Pearson International Airport (YYZ), take the UP Express to Bloor Station (at Bloor St. W & Dundas St. W). At Bloor Station, walk a few minutes to Dundas West Station. At Dundas West station, take the subway (Line 2, Bloor-Danforth, Green, towards Kennedy) and head Eastbound. Get off at St. George station (7 stops).

(c) From Pearson International Airport (YYZ), take the UP Express to Union Station (Front St. and University Ave.). At Union Station, take the subway (Line 1, University, Yellow, towards Vaughan) and head Northbound. Get off at Queen's Park (4 stops). Note: Do not take the Yonge Line towards Finch!

(d) If you are flying Porter Airlines and decide to take public transit from the Toronto Island Airport (YTZ), take the Porter shuttle which will drop you off at the north-east corner of Front Street and York Street, and then cross to the south side of Front Street and enter Union station. At Union Station, take the subway (Line 1, University, Yellow, towards Vaughan) and head Northbound. Get off at Queen's Park (4 stops). Note: Do not take the Yonge Line towards Finch!
